My in-laws live by a lake here near Grenoble, and every 5 or 10 years, the lake freezes deep enough to make it safe to walk and skate on it. Lucky for us, this time we didn’t miss it. It was amazing.

I never liked ice-skating before, you know, boring. This was sooooo different. We met an old friend and skated with him by sunset. Next morning, the ice was “singing” from freezing and contracting. It felt like whales were trapped under the ice. Totally unreal. The large cracks in the ice were a bit scary, but they also let you see how deep the ice was (about 10 cm/4′.. a perfect knitter’s reference!), which was reassuring. Even the kids came to skate with us. :-)
It was fantastic. (of course I was wearing my new slouchy hat!)

The hood is all done again, and this time it should fit perfectly. Can’t wait to start the shoulder shaping. :-P
And now I’ll go back to translating some french knitting patterns
