Some spinning, and assembling granny squares ..

I really thought I was going to try my hand on a wheel for the very first time this week, as my friend Claudia bought one (a Louet S10, same as the one I plan on buying as soon as we move to a larger place) and invited me to try it with her, .. BUT the car broke down that same day and it’s now postponed till next week. Still, it’s a nice thing to look forward to, and I’ve been wondering whether I’d actually be able to spin on it and how different it will feel from my kick spindle… :-P

I’ve been spinning some lovely roving sent ages ago by Nutt in the fiber swap club. I split the roving in 4, and have now spun half of it. Nice fat thick and thin 2 ply, but it now seems so BORING to me compared to spinning fun artsy yarns.. ;-) I’ve got a knitting project in mind to use up those art yarns btw, and can’t wait to see how it goes. :-P

Listed tons of craft-related books on Ebuy btw (in french, if you’d like to have a look) Which led me to discover this ultra cute little book, which of course I’m keeping for myself: apparently it was first published in english under the name “let’s weave”, but I love that section about how-to-make-your-own-spindle (including with a potato and a stick!). There’s even a section on dying wool with natural dyes ! :-D

I spent some time working on assembling the squares for my granny-square blankie today during the girl’s nap. Once again it’s not the part I like most, but at least single-crocheting them together is not half as terrible as seaming them together. Just takes ages for me.
I saw the little guy for whom I’m making it this week and he is SO tiny, and so cute !! Amazing how fast we forget how tiny newborns are. But anyways, that also means I’ll try and finish the blankie fast:I’ll have to watch a lot of tv this week as this is when I crochet them.. :-P

And finally, look at this awesome I received from Val in Oz, as third installment of the Rav’ Fiber Swap Club: there’s some awesome brown fiber from one of her neighbors (Oh-so-soft, am still trying to decide if I’ll blend it with other fibers or just spin it as is for a very special yarn) and superb plum batts of superfine merino, plus white Finn top (with lots of crimp, can’t wait to see the looks of resulting yarn), white silk top, colorfull gliterati to use in my art yarns, along with a cute Oz-themed card and calendar. I’m so spoiled !! I actually thoroughly enjoyed this 3rd round of the swap, and totally have to sign up for the 4th now..!! :-P
