Snowmen and crocheting

So cool, my Granny mitts were featured in Lime & Violet this week. :-D
Craftzine chose instead to feature my old “Handmade gift pouch” Tutorial… Hey why not, it’s a freebie so might as well get twice more use.. ! :-P

Late post this week, but we’ve been away all week visiting my in-laws.
We had taken the girls pushbikes along, but… it actually snowed !

So instead they made snowmen with what little poor equipment we had. I even whipped up some yucky mittens for Maud so she wouldn’t freeze her hands… :-P

We really had a great relaxing time there, with a lot of reading for laurent, and a lot of crochet for me.. :-D

I made a new pair of Granny mitts with the yarn my friend Emily gave me in exchange for the pair I gave her. Colorful no ? ;-)
I made those using only one skein of Silk Garden, will add notes on that in the pattern later today. (color changes are so drastic that if you don’t mix colors a bit you end up with 2 totally different mitts. I actually ripped my first try as one was all dark/manly colors while the second was all girly). I just need to add buttons now.

I also started sewing my friend’s comfort blankie. It’s looking pretty cool now, itching to get it finished. I also have a new shawl nearly finished, but I’ll show that next time.

And look at my cousin’s capelet.

I have to tell you the full story: we visited them last spring, as I was finishing my pink Malabrigo Violaine top. I didn’t even to show her how to crochet, but she asked me to show her just a couple hours before we left. I showed her how to chain, sc and dc and then she practised with my hook and a bit of yarn. I’ve taught several friends lately but they never really continued so I didn’t think much of it. Except she wrote a week later showing her first sweater (!) for her daughter saying that the night after I left she SO BADLY wanted to crochet that she actually used some hair pins until she could find a yarn store to buy hooks !! :-D
And now everybody in the family says she’s completely hooked .. by my fault.. ;-) Apparently she crochets all the time, has made numerous sweaters and tops for her and her daughter. And sorry to be so wordy, but to show you the state of crochet in France : When she bought that pompom yarn for the capelet in the picture from her local Phildar store, the lady said ” but you can’t crochet this yarn, it’s only for knitting”. Like you’re only supposed to crochet tiny cotton thread… :-P

One last thing : She brought a little baby coat to try on the latest addition to the family. Saying, I quote: “It’s from a Phildar pattern. But I changed and adapted several things. Well, I didn’t really follow the pattern… it was a knitting pattern anyway”. Ha. I love her. I’ve found a new crochet pal !!! :-D
